I love Fall. I love everything about it. That back to school feeling we had as kids. The idea of getting back into a regular routine. The air turning crisp at night. Sleeping with the window open. My Birthday. But what do I love most about Fall? You guessed it – The fashion.
Fall and Winter fashions are great because you can build up your wardrobe at this time. A pair of black boots are timeless, although the heel style may change over years. Unlike summer where a lot of trends go in and out (how many times can you wear that floral dress?), Fall is about buying statement pieces that you will be using for years to come. Like clockwork, around this time of year, you get inundated by magazines telling you “what to wear this season.” I’m here to break it down for you with a few of my favorite picks for this fab season.
A bag in Tobacco
This brown, rusty color came on the scene this spring and its extending into fall. My favorite Tobacco pick is the Chloe Faye clutch. If a Chloe bag is not in your future, look for any bag in Tobacco, and pair It with military greens and staple black for what’s sure to be a great look. The Chloe Faye bag is one of their newest and comes in a few different styles – a large shoulder bag, small shoulder bag, and the clutch. Because I have a mild clutch obsession, you can’t go wrong with one to complete any outfit.
A Burgundy dress
For clothes, I’ll focus on buying that one great dress in Burgundy (aka “Aubergine” or “Maroon”), which is the color this season. I bought Prabal Gurung’s suede whip-stitched dress from his PF16 collection. This dress is simply fabulous. The entire PF collection is a winner and this specific dress was picked up by all the top stores. Its a great day-to-night transition dress. Spoiler alert: Prabal is going to do something very similar for resort, so watch out!
While I am a huge fan of this Prabal number, any dress in Burgundy is going to be a knock out this season. There are many options in the stores and online. Wear it in the fall and then into the winter with tights and/ or boots.
While military goes in and out, I don’t think its really ever out! And this fall, its most definitely in. Whether its an army- green pair of pants, or a cool embellished military jacket- you’re going to want something in this style. Personally, I wanted a military jacket. I found this Vest by Rag and Bone that I am going to layer, layer, layer as the weather gets colder.

A Bomber Jacket
Bomber jackets were all the rage this spring and they continue strong for fall. A simple leather one and the more fun shiny/ embellished options are great as well. I like this one from Acne Studios sold at FWRD by Elyse Walker and another by Rag and Bone available at Intermix.
Ahhh… Velvet Velvet Velvet. It has been in the back of my closet for a few years now, but I resisted the urge to purge it. Now its back – and in all forms… jackets, dresses, shoes. Some of the velvet boots I’m seeing are out of this world. I envision them with a great jean or pair of leather pants for night. My pick is this Velvet Frame Blazer. It’s going to transition from day to night beautifully!
