While shopping during the summer months, I noticed new pieces that combine a fall look with an air of summer. I remember asking a sales associate if this was a new summer shipment, which seemed odd given seasonal sales were just about to start. The answer I received was that this is called the Pre-Fall Collection. And then it hit me – I have to budget for these Pre-Fall collections as well!
While not all designers have a Pre-Fall line, you get some great pieces for your wardrobe in this perhaps off season. Walk into a boutique like Intermix or into Bergdorf Goodman and the shelves are stocked with new merchandise, mainly from Pre-Fall. For the true fashonista, shopping in July actually means buying clothes to wear in September. If you wait to shop based on the temperature, you are likely to miss out on these collections.
Prabal Gurung has an amazing Pre-Fall collection this year. I was lucky enough to preview and shop the showroom for PF16 and picked up some great pieces. I am a big on dresses, and found some amazing ones from which to choose. Leather and Suede show up a lot in the collection, like this wool dress with a leather collar and waistband that I bought.
In addition, there were a mix of cottons, layering, and transitional pieces like knits, cardigans and jackets. This versatility and layering is in line with the way the fashion industry is re-evaluating their approach to seasons and making these pieces evergreen. See below for some other amazing looks from Prabal’s Pre-Fall 2016 collection and then run to the stores to buy them before they sell out!
